At the Art of Dog Training Academy, we often receive inquiries about whether we can help resolve dog aggression. As one of Denver’s best board and train programs, we recognize the significance of addressing this issue.
Understanding Aggression: A Dynamic Issue
Although we are committed to working with even the most difficult and dangerous dogs, aggression is a complex and dynamic issue, involving a range of behaviors that dogs exhibit in response to various stimuli. These behaviors can include growling, snarling, lunging, snapping, and biting.
Aggression can be rooted in fear, dominance, possessiveness, territoriality, or even medical issues.
The words “cure” and “fix” don’t, in our view, do not accurately describe the dynamic.
Instead, we will provide your pup with a new and clear set of expectations and will hold them accountable to them. For example, a dog might display leash aggression, reacting negatively to other dogs or people when on a leash, while remaining friendly when off-leash. Another dog might exhibit resource guarding, aggressively protecting food, toys, or other valued items. In some cases, aggression can escalate, posing risks to other animals, people, or the aggressive dog itself. These risks include anxiety, fear, injury, and even legal liabilities.
Given the diverse nature of dog aggression, it’s essential to work with experienced trainers who can tailor their approach to your dog’s specific needs and develop a comprehensive plan to address the root causes of aggression and modify the resulting behaviors.
Our Approach: Tools and Systems for Effective Management
Through our specialized dog training programs, such as our Behavior Modification course, we equip both you and your dog with the necessary tools and systems to manage their aggression safely and effectively.
Our primary goal is to help you live a happy life with your canine companion and open doors that may have been closed due to behavioral issues. By viewing this journey as a campaign, with a reputable Board and Train program as the crucial first step, we ensure a long-lasting and positive impact on your dog’s behavior.
Upon arrival at our academy, each owner will receive a course featuring 12 video lessons that thoroughly explain everything your pup will be learning, and which will help you be prepared for graduation day!
At graduation, we will show you everything that we have taught your pup in an in-depth and meticulous way. You will then receive a detailed homework packet that clearly outlines how to reinforce the training for the next 4 months.
This homework packet comes complete with a repetition tracker and is supported by additional video lessons. In addition to everything just listed, Art of the Dog features a year-long, post-graduation follow-up process.
You will never feel like you are on an island because we will be actively communicating with you for an entire year post-graduation.
Finally, for the rest of your dog’s life, we offer unlimited one-on-one private training. We are committed to making sure everyone we work with is successful.

Are there extreme cases?
Yes, there have been dogs that we could not train to our standards.
While it is rare, there have been instances where some dogs didn’t meet our training standards. If this occurs, we will of course be honest with you and work closely with you to ensure your satisfaction. Over the past 1,000 dogs we have trained, only 3-5 dogs didn’t fully meet our expectations. Regardless, we provided these owners with extended support and guidance. We genuinely care about your dogs and the quality of our services. If we feel that we can’t assist you in a way that we are proud of, we will communicate openly with you.
