Dog Training in Denver, CO

Art of the Dog Canine Academy has been training dogs in Denver since 2019. We specialize in the cases that other programs turn down: reactive dogs, aggressive dogs, anxious dogs, and dogs that are simply unmanageable in daily life.

academy / team on site

Jamie, Ian, and Will founded Art of the Dog Canine Academy with a specific focus: the behavioral cases that group classes, private trainers, and even vet behaviorists couldn’t resolve. That focus hasn’t changed.

Since 2019, we’ve worked with thousands of Denver dog owners across two academies, one in Denver and one in Longmont, serving the metro and northern Colorado. The program is one: a 21-day live-in board & train that produces lasting behavioral change.

Our focus is narrow on purpose: the behavioral cases other programs can’t resolve, and the everyday dogs that are harder to live with than they should be.

dog in a dense Denver / urban setting

New to Denver with a dog that isn’t adjusting?

Denver is a different environment than most of the country. The density, with apartment buildings, tight sidewalks, and more dogs per square mile than almost anywhere in the US, is hard for dogs that grew up somewhere with space.

If you moved here from a larger state or a more rural area, and your dog was manageable there but isn’t managing here, you’re not alone. We see this pattern regularly. The dog isn’t broken. They’re overwhelmed by an environment they weren’t built for. That’s fixable.

What we work on in Denver.

reactive dog in Denver
Reactive dog training in Denver Dogs that lunge, bark, or lose control around other dogs, strangers, or on-leash triggers. Reactivity is the most common presenting problem we see in Denver, and one of the most resolvable with the right program.
aggressive-case dog
Aggressive dog training in Denver Dogs that have bitten, shown aggression toward household members or guests, or fight with other dogs in the home. We take bite-history cases. Multi-dog household conflicts. This is the work we specialize in.
anxious dog
Anxious dog training in Denver Separation anxiety, fear-based reactivity, destructive behavior rooted in anxiety. Dogs that are suffering, not just difficult. Your dog isn’t trying to be difficult. They’re overwhelmed. That’s fixable.
off-leash dog on a trail
Off-leash dog training in Denver Dogs that can’t be trusted off-leash: no reliable recall, no response to commands in high-distraction environments. Colorado’s outdoor lifestyle demands a dog you can actually take on a trail.
everyday obedience
Obedience training in Denver Leash pulling, jumping on guests, poor recall, general unruliness. The dog isn’t dangerous, but daily life with them is harder than it needs to be.
21-day program / dog living on site

One program. Immersive training. 21 days.

Every dog that comes to Art of the Dog goes through the same program: a 21-day live-in board & train at one of our two academies.

Your dog lives here for three weeks. Training isn’t scheduled in hourly sessions; it’s woven into every hour of every day, in an environment built specifically for behavioral change. You get daily photo and video updates throughout. At pickup, we walk you through everything and train you to maintain the results.

Every graduate also receives lifetime support: unlimited one-on-one follow-up sessions if a behavior drifts after the program. No expiration date.

Who you’re trusting with your dog.

Art of the Dog was founded by Jamie, Ian, and Will, three trainers who built the program around the cases other trainers send away. Our Denver academy runs under GM Andrew, and every dog works with the same team from intake through pickup and beyond.

What Denver owners tell us they notice first isn’t a credential. It’s the communication. You get daily photo and video updates throughout the program, so you always know what your dog is working on and who they’re working with. By pickup day, you’ve watched the change happen, and we train you to keep it going at home.

A Denver graduate: Banks.

Before the program, Carly couldn’t enjoy the thing she’d moved to Colorado for. Banks pulled on every walk and every hike: “walks and hikes were not enjoyable. He was pulling us everywhere we went.”

Three weeks changed the daily reality. Banks came home calm on leash and dialed in, and the outdoors opened back up:

“Our relationship with Banks has significantly improved. We love going for walks with him now. We love going on hikes and exploring Colorado together. He is always just locked in.” — Carly

In Carly’s words, “he respects us a lot more,” and “our lives have definitely changed for the better.”
