Art of the Dog Canine Academy started in Denver in 2019, training the behavioral cases other programs turn down: reactive dogs, aggressive dogs, anxious dogs, and dogs that are simply unmanageable in daily life. Longmont was our first expansion location.

The Longmont academy isn’t a franchise or a satellite running a different playbook. It runs the identical 21-day live-in board & train, staffed by trainers from the same team — Jamie and Will, two of our founders and head trainers, now run the show in Longmont. Same standard, same program, north of Denver.

Our focus is narrow on purpose: the behavioral cases other programs can’t resolve, and the everyday dogs that are harder to live with than they should be.

The Longmont academy serves Longmont, Boulder, Fort Collins, and the surrounding northern Colorado communities. Boulder is about 20 minutes away; Fort Collins is about 35. Many of our clients drive in from across the region rather than make the trip into Denver.

If you’re north of the metro, you no longer have to choose between a serious behavioral program and a reasonable drive. The work that built our reputation in Denver now happens up here too — closer to home for the northern Front Range.

What we work on in Longmont.

Reactive dog training

Dogs that lunge, bark, or lose control around other dogs, strangers, or on-leash triggers. The most common case we see, and one of the most resolvable.

Aggressive dog training

Bite history, aggression toward household members or guests, dogs that fight in the home. The work we specialize in — we take the cases other programs send away.

Anxious dog training

Separation anxiety, fear-based reactivity, destructive behavior rooted in anxiety. Your dog isn’t trying to be difficult. They’re overwhelmed. That’s fixable.

Off-leash dog training

No reliable recall, no response in high-distraction environments. Northern Colorado’s trails and open space demand a dog you can actually take off-leash.

Obedience training

Leash pulling, jumping on guests, poor recall, general unruliness. The dog isn’t dangerous, but daily life with them is harder than it needs to be.

Every dog at the Longmont academy goes through the same program Denver runs: a 21-day live-in board & train.

Your dog lives here for three weeks. Training isn’t scheduled in hourly sessions; it’s woven into every hour of every day, in an environment built specifically for behavioral change. You get daily photo and video updates throughout. At pickup, we walk you through everything and train you to maintain the results.

Every graduate also receives lifetime support: unlimited one-on-one follow-up sessions if a behavior drifts after the program. No expiration date.

Art of the Dog was founded by Jamie, Ian, and Will, three trainers who built the program around the cases other trainers send away. Jamie and Will run our Longmont academy directly, and every dog works with the same team from intake through pickup and beyond.

You get daily photo and video updates throughout the program, so you always know what your dog is working on and who they’re working with. By pickup day, you’ve watched the change happen, and we train you to keep it going at home.

A Front Range graduate: Banks.

Before the program, Carly couldn’t enjoy the thing she’d moved to Colorado for. Banks pulled on every walk and every hike: “walks and hikes were not enjoyable. He was pulling us everywhere we went.”
